2nd PDA High School Parliamentary Debate World Congress 2017, Osaka, Japan

2nd PDA High School Parliamentary Debate World Congress 2017, Osaka, Japan

The tournament was hosted from 20th – 22nd January 2017 at Nikko Kansai International Airport where about 20 teams from different countries, such as South Korea, Morroco, Finland, New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy and Japan, participated. Prab (JC1), Linya (Sec4) and Nond (Sec 3) were the representative from our school.

Our team emerged undefeated after the preliminary rounds. In the Grand Final, native category, went against New Zealand. The motion was “THBT Artificial Intelligence is an enemy”. We were proposition while New Zealand was opposition. Our students featured main argument that robotizing the economy will increase unemployment of the people who are unable to find new job or improve themselves due to the lack of skills and resources. The jobs created from the development of AI will only benefit technology companies that are western companies and hired only skilled workers. Finally, we argued that AI has the potential to surpass human intelligence in its best form and when human finds it difficult to understand each other, we do not want to imagine how we interact with the AI.

It was a close round and with 4 – 3 split decision, we were awarded the Champion of the 2nd PDA High School Parliamentary Debate World Congress with Linya being recognized as the Best Speaker of the entire tournament.
