The 6th Thailand World Schools Debating Championships 2017 (TWSDC)
Anglo Singapore International School sent 4 teams of debaters and 2 student adjudicators to participate in the Thailand World Schools Debating Championship 2017. The tournament was held over a period of three days from 21 to 23 January 2017 at Panyarat High School. Students were made to debate a wide range of topics. These included religion, education, international humanitarian law, the economy and intellectual property rights. The team that included Nine (JC1), Jebelle (JC1), Angel (Sec 4) and Tam (Sec 3) eventually emerged as Champions of the Open category, defeating Triam Udom Suksa School in the Grand Finals. This team remained unbeaten in all 8 rounds of debate throughout the entire tournament.
The second team, comprising Joe (Sec 4), August (Sec 4) and Pink (Sec 2) narrowly lost to Triam Udom Suksa School in the semi-finals of the Open category.
The third team comprising Peam (Sec 3), Jane (Sec 2), Jijy (Sec 2) and Focus (Sec 2) emerged as Champions of the Junior High category, defeating Pathumwan Development School in the Grand Finals.
In addition, the debaters won the following individual awards:
Angel Chan (Sec 4) – Best Speaker of the Tournament
Jebelle Sutanto (JC1) – 2nd Best Speaker of the Tournament
Phudish Prateepamornkul (Tam) (Sec 3) – 3rd Best Speaker of the Tournament
Peam Suwattanakorn (Sec 3) – 9th Best Speaker of the Tournament
Suriyes Hirunsap (Jew) (Sec 4) – 10th Best Adjudicator of the Tournament
Our performance in this tournament confirms the progress our debaters have made and we hope that they continue to grow from strength to strength.
