Thai Language Programme
In the spirit of internationalism and in accordance with the Thai Government regulations, the teaching of Thai language and culture to our students isan integral part of the curriculum. All Thai and non-Thai students are required to study Thai. In primary, Thai nationals take additional Thai lessons in the afternoon which cover more advanced language work. On the other hand, non-Thai students are given a basic course in Thai language and culture as well as topics on “Thai Ways of Life”, to better understand and appreciate our community.
Thai manners are strictly observed during Thai classes. We strongly believe that the language and culture of the host country will further enrich our multicultural body of students.
In general, the programme encourages students’ development of a positive attitude towards Thai language, tradition and culture. The classes engage in a number of thematic units which integrate oral work, reading, and writing.
Aside from observing and explaining the relevance of Thai festivals and special events throughout the year to the students, the school community also celebrates some of the most meaningful and colourful festivities in Thai culture such as Loy Khratong and Songkran. Activities for the occasion are further highlighted by the students wearing wonderful Thai costumes, Thai songs and dances and delectable Thai sweets and cuisine.
